Montana Land

Posted in Uncategorized by j9stengel on July 15, 2009

Montana is quite beautiful and being on a dairy farm was a new experience for me; helping milking cows, seeing a cow birth, having the good smell of MooPoo and the symphony of animal sound all day and night.

On this farm every other day, 40 000 pounds of milk is being produced. The 230 of 300+ cows get milked 3times a day, starting at 5am in a double 10 parlor.

The milk industry is struggling though. At this farm, the owners are loosing $500 per day; which mostly comes back in income, but still…. Since January 2002, milk prices have fallen by half, and the decreased global demand is spilling into the domestic market.
